Anniversary Cake Topper

That’s right, it’s been ONE YEAR since we got married.  It’s hard to believe that our wedding day was a year ago… but then again, a lot has happened since we got married – we bought a house, remodeled it… including an entire kitchen, celebrated two more birthdays (#26 & #32), had our first baby (Avery), celebrated lots of firsts as a family, traveled to Vermont & NYC, and I graduated with my Masters.

So, how are we celebrating our First Anniversary?  Well, we’ve had quite a busy weekend.  Instead of exchanging gifts, we made something together that we can enjoy all summer for years to come.  More on that later… (hint, we told you about our project here)

Last night we had some friends and family over for a BBQ, and for desert?  Our cake topper!

Yes, we saved it.  It was in our freezer for a year.  So, following tradition, we cut our wedding cake topper one year after our wedding day…

How does 1-year old cake taste… and more importantly, what’s different about cutting it this year, than last?

This year, we were able to smash it in each other’s faces!  Oh, and after we cleaned it out of our noses and ears, it tasted pretty good!

Happy Anniversary, Hubby!

How do you celebrate your wedding anniversary?  Did you keep your cake topper?  How did your cake taste?!

  1. Oh, I LOVE IT!!! Happy ONE Year Anniversary. Funny, our two year anniversary was last Monday. ;o)

Yes, we kept the cake topper and last year I was pregnant. We had dinner at the same place we had our wedding dinner. This year, we did absolutely nothing. We had a sick baby and a lot of things to do before we left for Vermont. We’ll celebrate another time.

There were so many firsts for you — here’s to another year of more memories. XO

    • Happy Anniversary to you too! It’s too bad you were caught up on your anniversary this year… I’m sure you’ll make it up soon. It doesn’t have to be on the exact day just as long as you guys take some time to yourselves to celebrate – you deserve it. Marriage, family, and a baby is quite an accomplishment. I hope you get a chance to take a breath with your hubby to celebrate 2 years of it!

  2. Happy Anniversary! What a busy year you’ve had! You’ve accomplished so much.
Our cake was actually REALLY good, even a year later. It had that fondant icing, so I think that really helped to keep it sealed. I was shocked at how good it was! Love that you smashed it into each other’s faces:) Wish we had thought of that!

    • Thanks! The cake topper smashing was fun. I had no idea about it… apparently one of our friends said something right before we cut it and I was too preoccupied getting a plate for the cake piece to notice Vinay grab the piece and smush it in my face (mostly up my nose!) So he ran away laughing and of coarse I had to return the gesture..so I grabbed a handful and got him back! It was fun… maybe you can do it to your hubby next year!

  3. AWW! Happy Anniversary! We were opposite…..smashed at the wedding….took a bite and acted civilized for our 1 year lol! It really didn’t taste bad to us but I mean it is a year old cake….hahah

      • haha! I was actually thinking about our wedding pictures last night since our anniversary is coming up in a few weeks and how awesome the cake pix are. It didn’t get on my dress but the pictures are amazing! I think I’m going to share them for our anniversary post lolz!

  4. This is awesome Meghan! I love the cake smashing for the year later! That is cute. We never did save ours. We came home from our honeymoon and ate it with the family! 🙂 If you didn’t hear…our baby arrived! Noah Gregory Vogan was born on May 24th. He is so amazing and we are so in love with him. I will be posting our “baby story”, so you will get to hear all about it.

    • Congrats Arryn!!!! A little boy! I am so happy for you! Sounds like you are doing well if you’re blogging 🙂 I cannot wait to hear about his birth story and see lots of pictures of the cutie! Again, congrats, Arryn. So happy for you! -Wishing you lots of sleep and energy 🙂
